The Top Hat Club Royale is a 20-watt, single-channel, Class A combo built around a pair of EL84 power tubes and a 5Y3GT rectifier — a configuration that produces the characteristic compression, harmonic bloom, and midrange sensitivity associated with British-influenced low-wattage designs. A Celestion G12H 12" speaker reinforces that character with its familiar tight low end and present upper midrange. This example is in excellent condition throughout — cabinet, chassis, grille, baffle, covering, and hardware all present cleanly with no repairs or modifications noted.

Top Hat Amplification was founded by Brian Gerhard in the mid-1990s and built a reputation for handwired, point-to-point construction at a time when that approach was rare in production amplifiers. The Club Royale occupies the lower-wattage end of the Top Hat lineup and has been a working musician's choice for studio and moderate-volume stage use. The EL84/5Y3 pairing, select hardwood cabinet, and all-hardwood baffle are consistent with the build quality Top Hat established across its range. This unit dates to 2005, confirmed by date stamps on both the cabinet and chassis, with a Pacific Transformers power transformer dated September 2005 and a Top Hat output transformer coded June 2005.

All components are original: transformers, potentiometers, filter caps, knobs, leather handle, grille, baffle, and covering. Tubes have all been tested (Tung-Sol 12AX7 preamp, TAD EL84 power, Sovtek 5Y3GT rectifier). Tube sockets and pots were cleaned.  The burgundy vinyl covering is original and presents in excellent condition. No internal repairs have been performed. A fuzzy cover is included; no documentation is included. The amp comes in excellent condition with no issues to report.

Shipping Policy
By completing your purchase you are agreeing to this shipping policy. Shipments require signature on delivery, no exceptions. Less than 1% of our shipments are damaged in transit, and we are committed to making sure your item arrives safely. If there is damage, retain all packing materials intact, photograph them immediately, and send the photos to sales@maharsvintageguitars.com.

Amplifiers: We take additional precautions to prevent common shipping damage. Depending on the amp, this may include removing tubes, pulling the chassis from the cabinet if heavy transformers present a drop risk, or removing heavy speakers that could crack baffles in transit. Reassembly is required on delivery — we label everything clearly. These measures add to shipping costs but reflect hard-won experience. Vintage amplifiers (20 years or older) are sold as-is — all amps are tested in our shop upon intake and again before shipping. We cover shipping damage but cannot be responsible for the failure of vintage components in instruments that are 20 to 50-plus years old.
