Jackson guitars defined the sound and look of high-performance electric guitar in the 1980s and never really let go. What Grover Jackson built in Glendora starting in the late 1970s — the Soloist, the Rhoads, the King V — were instruments designed for players who needed more than what Fender and Gibson were offering: faster necks, deeper cutaways, extended upper fret access, and a visual language that matched the music. Randy Rhoads put the flying V offset on the map. The Soloist became the template for every superstrat that followed. These are not footnote guitars.
The vintage Jackson market — particularly USA-made San Dimas and Glendora-era pieces from the 1980s and early 1990s — has matured significantly, with serious collectors paying serious money for original, unmodified examples. Player-grade USA Jacksons remain some of the best performance value in the vintage market. The Japanese-made imports of the same era (Charvels, Jackson Japan) add another layer of legitimate collectibility for the knowledgeable buyer.
