We've brought in some killer pieces of late, and though this 1958 Tele has a couple changes, it might be the most special. You just don't see many Teles with a 57 v neck!
The guitar just has THE sound. It very much sounds like a 1953 Tele we sold earlier this year - one of the best sounding guitars through the shop ever.
The neck and body dates straddle the change from 1957 to 1958 - the body is dated 1-58 and the neck 12-57. One of the great things about the guitar is the 57 style V neck, a late example of the most coveted Fender guitar neck profiles.
The guitar also has the look - the perfect amount of wear and checking without looking beat. There are no routes, extra holes, or changes to the original finish.
Changes are limited to wiring and frets, but original parts are included. The tuners are original and there are no changes to the headstock. The string tree is round and does look to be original, though this is later than you'll usually see them. The original pickguard, knobs, bridge, control plate, switch tip, strap buttons, and pickups are all in place. The pots and switch have been replaced with modern parts, but the original harness is in the case. The only changed screws are the neck pickup mounting screws, which appear to be changed because they are flat head screws, which weren't used for several years prior to 58. All other screws appear to be original. The nut was changed during the refret.
The original bridge cover is included as well.
The bridge pickup leads were cut near the pickup and spliced back together under shrink tube. All the cloth wire looks original and I'm certain that the pickup is original and was never rewound.
Lastly, the frets have been professionally replaced with medium jumbos. There are those who will struggle with this, perhaps they'll even dish out some ridicule, but I'll tell ya - they feel awesome. And, they could be changed for something else. It is clear that this guitar was played enough to warrant a fret change, so swapping to something else wouldn't devalue the guitar at all if that's your perogative. The previous owner retained the original frets - they're in the case.
The guitar plays superbly and has the sound that you would expect from a vintage Tele. There's nothing else like it!
The original case is included. It is worn with plenty of character.
