This Sadowsky custom features a chambered Okoume body in a J-style platform - an uncommon combination, and one that shapes the tone of this bass meaningfully. Okoume is a lightweight African hardwood that, when chambered, produces a resonant, airy quality compared to solid alder or ash. Paired with the 34" scale, maple neck, and ebony fretboard, expect a faster attack and slightly less low-mid weight. This is a light instrument at 7 lbs 4 oz, which is notable for a full-scale 4-string. Overall condition is excellent throughout.

Sadowsky NYC instruments are built by hand in small numbers in New York City. Roger Sadowsky's approach to the J-style bass has been influential for decades — tighter tolerances, upgraded hardware, and a preamp system that became a standard against which boutique J basses are measured. The 4-21 designation refers to the 4-string, 21-fret configuration. The Super J designation indicates this is a dual-single-coil J pickup configuration. Sadowsky NYC production is distinct from the Metro and Warwick-era lines — these are the small-shop New York builds. Hipshot Ultralite tuners keep weight at the headstock minimal, which contributes to the overall balance of the instrument. The proprietary Sadowsky custom bridge is original and intact, with 2.450" string spacing at the saddles.

No repairs are noted anywhere on this instrument — body, neck, fretboard, and frets all come back clean. Body finish and neck finish are original. All electronics are original: 2 Sadowsky single-coil pickups, 4 potentiometers, 5 knobs (one stacked), original wiring and solder joints. The clear pickguard, output jack, control cavity cover, bridge, tuners, and tuner screws are all original. Action is set at 3/32" on both the first and fourth strings at the 12th fret. The nut is synthetic bone, 1-1/2" wide. Comes with the original Sadowsky hybrid gig bag in excellent condition, plus a strap and strap locks.
