This Roland TR-505 Rhythm Composer is in very good condition. You can tell it has been used but not abused. The TR-505 is a sample-based drum machine from Roland's mid-1980s lineup, using PCM samples rather than analog synthesis to reproduce drum and percussion sounds. That PCM-based architecture gives it a distinctly bright, punchy character across its kit sounds — the kick and snare samples carry a crisp, defined transient response that reflects the design priorities of that era of electronic percussion production.
The TR-505 is part of Roland's Rhythm Composer family and was positioned as an affordable, pattern-based drum machine with a range of preset PCM drum sounds including kick, snare, hi-hats, cymbals, and Latin percussion voices. It features a 16-step pattern sequencer, accent and shuffle controls, and MIDI in/out/through, making it useful both as a standalone rhythm source and as part of a larger MIDI setup. The unit runs on internal battery or AC adapter.
