What an amazing guitar!  This 2017 Martin D-18 Authentic 1939 is at the top of our list of favorite guitars in the shop currently.

The Martin D-18 Authentic 1939 isn't simply a high-end D-18—it's Martin's attempt to recreate the experience of owning a lightly played 1939 D-18. Rather than modernizing the design, Martin went to extraordinary lengths to build the guitar the way it would have been built before World War II. Hide glue is used throughout, the Adirondack spruce top is paired with genuine mahogany back and sides, the bracing is hand-shaped and tucked into the linings, and the neck features a non-adjustable T-bar reinforcement just like the originals. Even the finish is intentionally thin, allowing the guitar to vibrate more freely.  The 25.4" scale length and 1-11/16" nut width are consistent with the original specification. This is a purpose-built pre-war replica intended for players who want that construction philosophy in a new, playable instrument.

Solid Adirondack spruce over mahogany produces strong fundamental response, clear note separation, and robust low-end projection — qualities that made the late-1930s D-18 a benchmark for the style. Martin's Vintage Tone System (VTS) thermally treats the Adirondack top to approximate decades of played-in response, pushing the spruce toward a more open, resonant character from the outset. The ebony fingerboard and bridge contribute definition and sustain. This example is in excellent condition throughout. An LR Baggs  pickup system has been added for amplified use. Action measures 3/32" on both the 1st and 6th strings at the 12th fret. It ships with its original Martin case, also in excellent condition.

We have no condition issues to report. The finish, top, back, sides, neck, fretboard, frets, binding, bridge, and case all present in excellent condition. There are no cracks, repairs, or modifications to the guitar's structure aside from the added output jack for the pickup system. All other components, including tuners, nut, saddle, bridge, bridge plate, and pickguard, are original to the instrument.
