Marshall 1988 JCM800 50 watt Model 2204, Excellent

This Marshall JCM800 50 Watt Model 2204 is an excellent example in black.  It runs perfectly with no issues whatsoever.

The JCM800 2204 is a single-channel, 50-watt master volume head that defined the sound of hard rock and heavy metal through the 1980s. Two EL34 power tubes running in push-pull configuration through a Drake output transformer deliver the tight, harmonically rich midrange that made this platform iconic — aggressive enough to cut through a full band, with enough preamp gain on tap to sustain without burying note definition. 

The 2204 is the 50-watt variant of the JCM800 series, distinguished from the 2203 100-watt version by its pair of EL34s rather than four, which many players find produces a slightly earlier and more touch-responsive breakup at manageable stage volumes. All three transformers — power, choke, and output — are Drake units dating to May 1988, as indicated by the 5 88 date codes stamped on each, consistent with the date codes noted on the chassis. Preamp tubes are three RCA 12AX7s; power tubes are a pair of PM EL34s. Potentiometers are original. The chassis is all-metal and original with no repairs or changes. Covering, cabinet, grille, knobs, and handle are all original.  

One of the three filter cap cans has been replaced.  The others test as good and are not in need of replacement.  We tested all the tubes and cleaned the tube sockets and pots. The cabinet, grille, and chassis are all in excellent condition.  A power cable is included.

Amplifiers: We take additional precautions to prevent common shipping damage. Depending on the amp, this may include removing tubes, pulling the chassis from the cabinet if heavy transformers present a drop risk, or removing heavy speakers that could crack baffles in transit. Reassembly is required on delivery — we label everything clearly. These measures add to shipping costs but reflect hard-won experience. Vintage amplifiers (20 years or older) are sold as-is — all amps are tested in our shop upon intake and again before shipping. We cover shipping damage but cannot be responsible for the failure of vintage components in instruments that are 20 to 50-plus years old.
