This 1959 Gretsch Duo Jet Model 6128 is a rare vintage classic from one of the most iconic years in Gretsch history.

Featuring original PAF Filter’Tron pickups, this guitar delivers the chime, bite, and warmth that defined the rock ’n’ roll era. The black nitro finish, chambered mahogany body, and rosewood fingerboard combine for a lightweight, resonant instrument that sings with clarity and sustain.  1959 is the first year that Gretsch added Filter'Tron pickups to their guitars.

Complete with its original case and strap, this Duo Jet is an exceptional example for both collectors and players. Whether you’re chasing the unmistakable tones of George Harrison, Cliff Gallup, or Duane Eddy, this 1959 Gretsch offers the authentic sound and feel only a true vintage instrument can deliver.

Many Duo Jet examples have neck set issues.  This one doesn't!  The original frets are as you'll find on others - they're a bit wonky.  The guitar plays well and sounds amazing, but if you want to make this a go-to for regular use in the studio or on stage you'll want to get it refretted.  This is simply the case for all the 1950s Duo Jets I've come across.

The guitar originally shipped with a fixed Gretsch tailpiece.  That part is in the case.  A period correct, Gretsch branded Bigsby tailpiece was added, and it perfectly suits the vibe of the piece.  There is a set of strings on the original tailpiece - it is possible that they're original strings.

The Gretsch made Melita bridge may or may not be original.  There is no other bridge included so I am inclined to say that it was originally shipped on the guitar.  There also is no visible footprint of any other tailpiece.  One saddle set screw is missing.  A couple of the flat, aluminum parts that help to set intonation appear to be replacements.  Even with the missing screw, the guitar can be perfectly intonated.

There are no other changes or repairs.  Overall, the guitar is in excellent condition, especially compared to others you'll see on the market.

The original case is in nice shape, rounding out the package quite nicely.

Nothing else in the vintage guitar world sounds quite like a Duo Jet!

At Mahar’s Vintage Guitars, every piece is expertly inspected, professionally photographed, and carefully set up before sale. This ensures that you’re not just buying history—you’re buying a guitar ready to play and cherish.
