Gibson launched the Les Paul Special 55 to commemorate the launch of the model in 1955.  The made 331 in 1977, and a total of 2775 between 1974 and 1979.  Most were made in 1974, when they released 1925 total pieces.

One notable feature is the one-piece, mahogany body.  One might think that this, and the fact that it is a 70's Gibson, would mean that this is a heavy load, but it weighs in at 8 pounds 4 ounces.  It is comfortable to play for sure.  The neck was also spared the 70s volute- the bump at the transition from the neck to the headstock that was present on 70s Gibson guitars.

The guitar is in average condition for its age, and perhaps better than other LP 55s I've seen.  You can tell it has been someone's player.  The frets show wear but are not in need of imminent replacement.  The truss rod has room for neck relief adjustment.  There are no issues or repairs.  The electronics are all original and untouched.  One tuning machine has a slight wobble from being bent a touch, but this does not affect tuning stability.  One end of the original case handle has been repaired.

This is a great sounding, great playing guitar.  The Special is so simple, but versatile, and everyone needs a P-90 loaded guitar in their arsenal!
