This Gibson Les Paul Special Transparent Cherry is an excellent example in Transparent Cherry. Mahogany back, sides, and neck in a single-cutaway solid body configuration produce a tonality defined by warmth and midrange weight — the lack of a maple cap keeps the top end from brightening significantly, pushing the character toward thick fundamentals and sustain. The 24.75" scale length reinforces that Gibson Les Paul feel in terms of tension and response, and the flat slab body construction typical of the Special keeps overall mass in check relative to a Standard.
The Les Paul Special uses an all-mahogany construction — no carved maple top, no binding, pearloid dot inlays on a rosewood fretboard — a no-frills, working-instrument design that prioritizes the P-90 platform. The neck pickup is a Gibson/Epiphone P-90 (not original to the guitar), reading 7.59k, marked with an "N" on the underside. The bridge pickup is a "52 P-90" (not original to the guitar), reading 8.24k, marked "52" stamped on top; both pickups have black covers. The 3-way toggle switch, switch tip, output jack, jack plate, knobs, and potentiometers are original. The pots carry manufacturer code 137 and date code 9016 — code 137 is CTS, and a 9016 code reads as week 16 of 1990. Wiring and solder are non-original. The bridge is a Gotoh fixed bridge (not original to the guitar) with graphite saddles original to that bridge. Tuners are original Grovers with no modifications to the headstock. The pickguard, truss rod cover, control cavity cover, screws, switch tip, and knobs are all original. The finish is original.
There is a solid headstock repair. The bridge is a non-original Gotoh replacement, and both pickups are non-original, as noted above. Wiring and solder are also non-original. Frets are in very good condition with no repairs. The nut is original bone with no repairs. We set the guitar up here in the shop with the action at 2/32" on the 1st string and 2/32" on the 6th string at the 12th fret, strung with 10-52s. No case is included.
