This 1952 Fender Esquire is the second Blackguard to show up recently.

It is of course a remarkable guitar that weighs almost exactly 7 pounds (7lb 0.4 ounces), with a neck to die for and enough wear to give it that perfect, vintage look without being haggard.  The back of the neck is perfectly worn.

The finish is original throughout and there are no repairs to the body or neck, nor are there any cracks or other such issues.

The original pickup's output is 5.01k, and being a low-wind/low output pickup, it has that consummate 50's Tele tone.  The controls retain the  original capacitor and resistor stack that give the darker "mud tone" when switched towards the neck. The switch and volume pot are original as well, and the original tone pot is in the case.  The neck plate, pickguard, bridge, control plate, knobs, output jack and wiring are all original, as are all the screws that mount these parts to the guitar.

Here are the changes:

Reproduction, aged tuners with the original bushings.  The tuner screws look original to me.  No changes to the headstock - no new tuner screw holes or other funny business.  Changed tone potentiometer.  The original 1952 Clarostat pot is in the case.  The rest of the electronics are original.  Repro saddles, springs and screws with the originals in the case.  A professional refret was performed by Mike Lull in 2015.  The case is clearly not original.  There are two very small string tree holes in the front of the headstock that are nearly imperceptible.  The person who did this work missed the logo, thankfully.

The guitar was owned by Jerry Finn for years, who produced records for Green Day, Blink 182, Rancid, Morrissey, the Vandals, the Offspring, Bad Religion, etc.  The guitar was purchased from the Jerry Finn estate by Val McCallum, who toured with and/or did session work for Jackson Browne, Sheryl Crow, Lucinda Williams, The Wallflowers, Bonnie Raitt, and Loretta Lynn, among others.
