The DeArmond Model 1602 is a passive volume pedal with a well-established reputation among vintage guitar players and pedal steel players alike. This example has been modified - see the pics.  Maybe you could use this enclosure to make your own pedal, or just use it as a volume pedal - your call!

DeArmond built a long run of volume pedals under the 1600-series designations, and the Model 1602 is among the most commonly encountered. These units were made in the USA and were a staple on professional stages and in studios from the 1950s through the 1970s. They are valued today for their durability. The 1602 specifically uses a potentiometer-based design that has held up well over decades of use, and parts remain serviceable. Collectors and working players alike keep these in rotation.
