This 1964 Vox Domino Bass Amp is a fantastic slice of British amplifier history, delivering vintage tone, compact practicality, and unmistakable ’60s character.  I can't imagine using it for bass - it is one of the coolest sounding guitar amps I've ever heard.

Built during Vox’s golden era, the Domino line offered players a more accessible way into classic Vox sound, and today these amps are prized for their unique voice, studio-friendly size, and undeniable vintage charm.

This thing sings.  It is pretty much an AC4, without the tremolo but with a 12" Fane speaker.  Plus, it is way too cool looking.  It falls into my favorite category of amps, what I call "musical furniture".  This amp can totally hang in any living room.

The amp gets into full Vox, EL84 saturation at very reasonable volumes.  It is a dream come true with a Tele.  It delivers warm, rounded low end with a clear, articulate midrange that will work perfectly in a recording or small-room setting. It breaks up in a smooth, musical way when pushed, offering rich harmonics and a touch-sensitive response that makes it feel alive under your fingers. The simplicity of the circuit keeps the sound direct and organic, and the amp responds well to playing dynamics and volume changes from the instrument.

The amp is in amazingly clean condition.  It was 100% stock when it arrived, but it definitely needed a cap job.  I did so, leaving the original can cap in place without adding new holes in the chassis.  I changed out the original rectifier tube as it was toast on arrival.  The EL84 and ECC83 are original Mullard tubes.  The speaker is original, as is the cone.

This amp will run on 110 or 220 volts.  You don't need a step up transformer for use in the US, but you will need a variac or a Brown Box.  You should never run this straight off wall voltage!  While this sounds complicated, it really isn't.  In fact, you should get a brown box if you have any 60s amps so you can limit wall voltage - amps from the period weren't really designed to run on the 120 volts delivered to our homes today.

Lastly - this is the lightest amp, so easy to move around!  That said, shipping will be somewhat expensive because we will ship in two boxes, leaving plenty of room for adequate packing material so we don't cause damage to this museum piece!

As with all amplifiers at Mahar’s Vintage Guitars, it has been fully inspected, photographed accurately, and evaluated to ensure dependable performance.

We buy, sell, and take trades.

Shipping policy:

When you purchase this item you are hereby agreeing to this shipping policy. We remove tubes from amps that could be damaged in shipping.  We do this because we have experienced shipping issues in the past, and this is our prevention measure.  Vintage amps are sold as-is because they can need service intermittently.  Everything is tested here in our shop on the way into our inventory, and again before shipping.  We will cover shipping damage, but we cannot be responsible for the failure of vintage components in 20-to-50-plus year old amps. Shipments will require signature on delivery, no exceptions.  If there is damage, the buyer must retain all packing materials intact and picture them immediately and send them to sales@maharsvintageguitars.com.  Less than 1% of our shipments are damaged in transit, and we are committed to making sure your item arrives safely, but we are taking these additional measures to make sure you are happy with your purchase.
