It has been a total pleasure to have this 1953 Blackguard Telecaster here in the shop - we don't get them all that often.

This example is both a player and a collector piece.  It has had a little work done, but nothing devastating by any means.

The guitar is light, has the look and an absolutely killer neck, and it plays like a dream.  The back of the neck is worn perfectly.  There's just nothing like it.

The neck was refretted prior to its acquisition by the current owner, who has the guitar on consignment with us.  At that time, the fretboard was refinished.  The back of the neck and the headstock retain the original finish, as does the body.  The current owner had larger frets professionally installed to his liking as it was his intent to play the guitar on stage, which he did.  A bone nut was installed, presumably at the time it was refretted.  Original tuners remain on the guitar with no hidden alteration beneath.

The body has the perfect amount of wear - quintessential.  There are no extra holes and no repairs anywhere on the body.  The original bridge, saddles, neckplate, pickguard, control plate, knobs, output jack cup and the screws that hold them all together are original.  The strap buttons are changed.

The original pickups, switch, pots, capacitor and output jack are in place.  The "mud circuit" was removed ages ago, so the guitar operates as and sounds like the Telecaster we all know and love.  Pickup output is 5.18k (neck) and 5.78k (bridge).  Someone added a ground wire between the controls and the bridge for some reason, without alteration to the bridge.

The case is a reproduction "poodle" case.

If you're looking for a Blackguard Tele that you can play and enjoy, this is your guitar.
