Fender 1964 P Bass "Inferno" All-Original and Playable Fire Victim

This 1964 Fender P Bass is a remarkable survivor.  It looks like it has been to hell and back!  It has a tale to tell, but unfortunately the story was not included.  It was found by a friend in a pawn shop with all its past erased, save the charred aftermath.

Many will wonder what value a bass like this has.  I can tell you that I could have sold this bass three or four times over before getting it back to the shop to list here, but I wanted you all to see it.  This will sell quickly - mark my words!  The thing is, the bass survived mightily.  All the original parts are there and they all work.  The truss rod works, and it plays really well. 

A September 1964-dated neck, original alder body, all-original electronics, and a pickup reading of 11.13k. The original pots date to the 20th week of 1964.  The gray-bottom pickups are intact with their original covers.  The original tuners and strap button adorn the singed headstock that bears the "transition logo".  The curved rosewood fretboard received clay dot position markers rather than the pearl dots that replaced them as 1964 came to a close.  The neck finish is original and the heel date remains from September of 1964. The tortoise pickguard took the fire hard, but thanks in large part to the thumbrest that helped to anchor it, it hangs in there. In my opinion the pickguard remnant and original shield has tremendous curb appeal.

The body was professionally refinished or over sprayed sometime before the fire.  You can see the slight color difference in the neck pocket where the paint stick originally left a portion of the neck pocket free of paint.  It looks to me that the bass was originally white and it was lightly oversprayed.  The cavities to not show significant paint build up and there is no sign of any other color in the nooks of the cavities or neck pocket.  The bass smells of smoke, as does the case. The non-original Fender molded case carries a slight smoky smell and is in functional condition. The body is otherwise original with no repairs. The neck, fretboard, and frets are in excellent with no repairs. Bridge and saddles are original and in very good condition. Tuners are original and in very good condition. Action is 3/32" on both the first and sixth strings at the 12th fret. No documentation or accessories are included. This is priced as a fire-damaged survivor — all the important parts are original and intact, and the bones are solid.
