Martin 2001 000-16 SGT Slot Head Acoustic w/TKL Case

The Martin 000-16 SGT is built on a 000-body platform — 15-1/8" lower bout, 4" body depth — with a Sitka spruce top over solid mahogany back and sides, scalloped X-bracing in spruce, and an ebony fingerboard and bridge. That combination produces a focused, balanced sound with clear note separation and enough warmth in the low-mids to hold its own fingerpicking or with a flatpick. The 25.4" scale, 1-3/4" bone nut, and modified low oval mahogany neck make for a comfortable, fast-feeling instrument, and the 16" fingerboard radius and slim neck profile (.831" at the first fret, .925" at the ninth) suit players who prefer a flatter board. This example is in excellent overall condition. The top shows very good finish with no cracks and no repairs. Frets, fingerboard, neck, back, sides, binding — all excellent, all unrepaired.

The 000-16 SGT (Sustainable Guitar Tonewoods) is part of Martin's 16 Series, a line that emphasizes working-player utility over cosmetic appointments. The slot-head configuration — referencing 19th-century parlor and classical construction — pairs with Waverly open-gear tuners (original, no headstock modifications) and a bone nut and saddle, elevating the hardware well above the 16 Series baseline. Pearl dot inlays, tortoiseshell pickguard, ebony bridge, and maple bridge plate round out the build. These instruments were not produced in enormous numbers and attract buyers who want a premium-appointed 000-sized acoustic without stepping into Custom Shop or vintage pricing.

Finish is original and in excellent shape throughout. There are no cracks, no repairs, and no non-original structural components. The one addition to note is an X2 double soundhole pickup system — not original to the instrument, added by a previous owner. The X2 uses two independent controls to blend an electromagnetic pickup (string clarity) with an onboard microphone (body resonance and percussive response), allowing the player to dial in a blend rather than commit to a single transducer type. The guitar comes with a TKL hard case in excellent condition — non-original to the guitar, no odor. A Martin care pamphlet is included. No other accessories.
