Magnatone built this blue pearloid lap steel around a hidden single-coil pickup, wax-potted directly into the body cavity. The guitar is in excellent overall condition with all original electronics intact: original pickup, two original cream knobs, original pots, wiring, solders, and output jack. The body shows no repairs, just an area of blue pearl missing at the edge of the headstock.  The instrument comes with what appears to be its original case, which is in very good condition with no odor.  The tuning machines are repro Kluson parts that required no change to the headstock.

Magnatone produced lap steels through the late 1930s into the 1960s under its own name and several associated brands, competing in the student and mid-range market. These instruments were built in California and are well-regarded among lap steel players and vintage collectors for their functional simplicity and distinctive cosmetics. The blue pearloid — metal over the top surface (MOTS) — is one of the more visually distinctive finishes from this era and has held up well here. The 22.25" scale length and 2-3/8" nut width are standard for the format. The horseshoe magnet pickup design predates and runs parallel to the more common under-string designs and gives these instruments a specific sonic identity.
