Kay 1960s Speed Demon P-3 Sunburst w/ Case

The Kay Speed Demon P-3 is a three-pickup thinline electric with an arched maple top over maple back and sides. The 25.5" scale and 12" radius rosewood fretboard give it a full, familiar feel, and the three original Kay "Speed Bump" single-coil pickups (reading 7.14k, 6k, and 5.64k neck to bridge) are all functional and in excellent condition. The four-way rotary switch, four black knobs, and all original wiring and solder joints are intact. Overall condition is good, with the finish graded fair.  It shows its age cosmetically, mostly on the edges of the guitar, but is original throughout on the body and neck.

The Speed Demon was one of Kay's top-of-the-line electric models in the 1960s, distinguished by its three pickups, arched top construction, and the characteristic "Speed Bump" chrome-covered single-coils that have become collectible in their own right. The P-3 designation is marked on the body. These guitars were American-made budget instruments that have aged into legitimate vintage status — the original Kluson Deluxe tuners, nickel Kay tailpiece, original neck screws, and intact original electronics all confirm this example has not been parted out or heavily modified over the decades.

The frets are in poor condition — see the spec list below for a description. The finish is original but fair, showing wear. The nut looks replaced and is bone. The pickguard screws are non-original replacements. The tuners are original Kluson Deluxe. . A case is included (brand and originality unknown, condition good, period correct).
