The Fender Tremolux was the most affordable amplifier in Fender's Professional Series piggyback line when it was introduced in 1961 — $249 with cabinet, against $349 for the Bassman and considerably less than the Showman. It is not the most affordable thing about it today. The 6G9-A Tremolux with the 1x10 tone ring cabinet is specifically the rarest configuration Fender produced in the blonde tolex era: fewer than 200 of this head-and-tone-ring-cabinet combination are believed to have been built before Fender moved to the sealed 2x10 cabinet with the 6G9-B revision. This is one of them.
The ported tone ring is an acoustically complex baffle design built around a single 10" Oxford speaker, producing a sound distinctly different from either the sealed 2x10 that most Tremolux players know or the open-back combos of the same era. Carter Vintage describes the tone ring configuration as producing "more of a Fender combo-style sound, delivering a wonderfully focused crunch when the volume is cranked." The focused, concentrated character of a single 10" in a ported resonant cabinet gives the amp an identity that the more common configurations do not replicate.
The 6G9-A circuit: 6L6 output tubes running at relatively low plate voltages for the tube type, with a GZ34 rectifier, producing approximately 30 watts with a characteristic bounce and give. Two channels — Bright and Normal — each with independent Volume, Treble, and Bass controls, plus tremolo Speed and Intensity. The preamp complement is two 7025s and two 12AX7s.
The amp has been responsibly serviced: filter caps replaced, bypass caps replaced, bias cap replaced, power cord upgraded to grounded three-prong, new JJ tubes throughout (GZ34S rectifier, 6L6 power tubes, and preamp complement). Original Oxford 10" speaker is intact with original cone. Original power, output, and choke transformers are all present and dated to 1961. Original rough blonde tolex and original oxblood grille cloth are intact and in beautiful condition. Original pots. Original knobs and handles. Original covers for both head and cabinet are included — a genuinely complete package for a historically significant and practically rare amplifier.
The amp runs perfectly and was a treat to work on.

Shipping policy:
When you purchase this item you are hereby agreeing to this shipping policy. We remove tubes from amps that could be damaged in shipping. These cases require the buyer to re-install them on delivery - it is very easy with this amp, and we label them so you know exactly where to put them. We do this because we have experienced shipping issues in the past, and this is our prevention measure. Vintage amps are sold as-is because they can need service intermittently. Everything is tested here in our shop on the way into our inventory, and again before shipping. We will cover shipping damage, but we cannot be responsible for the failure of vintage components in 20-to-50-plus year old amps. Shipments will require signature on delivery, no exceptions. If there is damage, the buyer must retain all packing materials intact and picture them immediately and send them to sales@maharsvintageguitars.com. Less than 1% of our shipments are damaged in transit, and we are committed to making sure your item arrives safely, but we are taking these additional measures to make sure you are happy with your purchase.
