This is a 2004 Gibson B.B. King "Lucille" in excellent condition, and it carries B.B. King's own signature, signed directly on the body. Photos of B.B. with the guitar are included.

The 2004 Lucille is everything Gibson's Memphis factory was doing right in that era — a semi-hollow ES-355-derived body with no f-holes (B.B.'s personal request, originally to combat feedback when he was stuffing rags into his 335s on the road), a three-piece maple neck with a rounded '59 profile, 22-fret bound ebony fingerboard with genuine pearl block inlays, and "Lucille" inlaid in mother-of-pearl on the headstock. Gold hardware throughout, including the engraved "B.B. King" truss rod cover and the TP-6 fine-tuner tailpiece that was one of B.B.'s signature touches. The six-position Varitone rotary switch is present and functioning — a feature B.B. insisted on keeping, and one that gives this guitar a tonal range you simply don't get anywhere else. Two 490R/490T Alnico humbuckers round out the electronics. The guitar plays and sounds exactly as it should — warm and full, with that semi-hollow resonance that made B.B.'s tone so unmistakable.

The guitar is in excellent condition, showing only the lightest signs of careful ownership — this one was clearly treated with respect. The gold hardware has the expected light patina of a 20-year-old guitar.  When we received the guitar, there were two areas of deep finish checking on the back of the treble and bass side horns where the ridge from the arched back peaks, resembling cracks.  Our luthier expertly touched these two small areas up.  They're extremely hard to see, requiring you to hold the guitar in the right light to do so.  The original case is included.

B.B. King passed away in May 2015. His signed instruments — particularly those accompanied by photographic documentation of the signing — have only grown in significance since. We have photos of B.B. with this guitar, signing it in the presence of its previous owners. The signature is on the body, clear and authentic. .
