Gibson 1962 SG Special Masetro Vibrola Excellent

Gibson's SG Special brings that raw, aggressive midrange character Gibson is known for. The neck pickup reads 8.45k and the bridge reads 8.22k — both healthy outputs for vintage P-90s, and both original. The 1960s SlimTaper C profile at .835" at the first fret and .907" at the twelfth is a fast, comfortable neck that sits well in most hands. Action is set at 2/32" on both the first and sixth strings at the twelfth fret. Overall condition is excellent throughout — finish, fretboard, frets, electronics, and body all present at that level.

The SG Special was Gibson's more accessible take on the SG platform with P-90s instead of humbuckers and dot inlays, but it shares the same lightweight mahogany construction, the same 24.75" scale, and the same double-cutaway access to the upper register. The iteration of the factory Maestro Vibrola is the most usable vibrato that Gibson experimented with.  You can also just wrap the strings around the stopbard and ignore it if you want.

There are no neck, neck heel, or control cavity breaks that often plague these guitars. Kluson Deluxe tuners are all original with no headstock modifications.  The back of the neck feels a little like someone lightly applied some steel wool to take the sheen off the finish.  It could be natural play wear, but the uniformity tells me it was lightly steel-wooled.  

The tremolo arm is not original — one of two somewhat inconsequential non-original hardware items on this guitar. Bridge pickup screws are also non-original. The pickguard shows some wear but is rated very good and is original. All wiring, the stopbar tailpiece, solder joints, pots, switch, and output jack are original. The control cavity cover is original. A non-original case in very good condition is included. No documentation is included.
