This 1961 Fender Bassman 6G6-A head with matching tone ring 1x12 cabinet in blonde tolex is a stunning, highly collectible example from Fender’s golden “blonde era.” Built during a pivotal transition between the tweed and blackface periods, this model represents the perfect blend of warmth, power, and precision that defined Leo Fender’s early ’60s amplifiers. The 6G6-A circuit is revered for its punchy response, articulate cleans, and rich harmonic overtones, making it one of the most sought-after vintage Bassman designs.
This is a clean example of the most desirable piggyback Bassman, and the original covers are included. The speaker cable, tolex, grille, handle, and all the hardware are original.
I purchased this amp along with a full set of early 60's, blonde tolex Fenders from a fellow dealer who has mostly retired and showed up at a recent guitar show with an incredible amp stash. In the group is a tone ring Tremolux, a tone ring Showman, and a tone ring Bansmaster - oh, and a white Twin! They all are in amazing shape and have the original covers. Check them out here on our site while they last! These amps have been hiding for decades and have never hit the market until now.
Powered by a pair of 6L6 tubes producing around 50 watts, this Bassman delivers tight, responsive low end and a sweet upper midrange perfect for guitar or bass. The matching tone ring cabinet enhances projection and low-frequency resonance, creating a massive, room-filling sound unlike any other vintage amp of its class. The blonde tolex, oxblood grille, and chrome hardware give it an unmistakably classic Fender aesthetic.
The transformers are original, as is the super cool and very rare Jensen P12L.
The amp came in with most necessary service already performed. I swapped the power cable for a gray, grounded one for an authentic look.
This amp just plain rips. The tone ring cab is the best - it gets fat tone and is substantially lighter than the 2x12 successor.
At Mahar’s Vintage Guitars, every amplifier is professionally tested, verified, and photographed accurately.

Shipping policy:
When you purchase this item you are hereby agreeing to this shipping policy. We remove tubes from amps that could be damaged in shipping. These cases require the buyer to re-install them on delivery - it is very easy with this amp, and we label them so you know exactly where to put them. We do this because we have experienced shipping issues in the past, and this is our prevention measure. Vintage amps are sold as-is because they can need service intermittently. Everything is tested here in our shop on the way into our inventory, and again before shipping. We will cover shipping damage, but we cannot be responsible for the failure of vintage components in 20-to-50-plus year old amps. Shipments will require signature on delivery, no exceptions. If there is damage, the buyer must retain all packing materials intact and picture them immediately and send them to sales@maharsvintageguitars.com. Less than 1% of our shipments are damaged in transit, and we are committed to making sure your item arrives safely, but we are taking these additional measures to make sure you are happy with your purchase.
