DeArmond introduced the Model 1900 in the early 1970s as one of the few treadle-operated phasers ever produced commercially. The wah-style form factor was an unusual design choice for a phase shifter, and it never became a widespread format — which makes surviving examples genuinely uncommon. This is a 1974 unit, from the heart of the original production run, and collector interest in early American-made analog effects from this period remains strong.

The pedal uses an all-analog phase-shift circuit driven by the mechanical treadle rather than an LFO, which gives it a distinctly hands-on character - you rock the foot pedal back and forth to sweep the phase effect manually, or park it at any point in the sweep to lock in a static phase position. This gives the player direct physical control over the depth and rate of the effect in real time, which no knob-based phaser can replicate. The result is an organic, expressive phase sweep that tracks your foot movement rather than a fixed LFO cycle. The construction follows the same basic chassis approach as DeArmond's wah pedals of the period, which were themselves respected for their durability. The absence of a rate knob or speed control is a feature, not a limitation — the treadle is the control.

Overall condition is consistent with a 50-year-old analog effects pedal. We have not listed specific cosmetic grades or functional status beyond what is documented in the photos, so buyers should examine the images carefully. No additional notes have been provided regarding repairs, modifications, or replaced components.
