Welagen is among the top D Style amp builders out there. These are keepers - you don't see many floating around!
Alexander Dumble was the preeminent amp builder. His work is now legendary, and his builds are unobtainable to most. Builders like Welagen are a tribute to his lifetime dedication to incredible guitar tone.
The Welagen Overdrive Special is simply the ultimate small dynamic lead amp with excellent projection and tonal balance. It has both Clean and Overdrive channels. The EQ controls and switches give you a variety of tones. A tube buffered effects loop allows for seamless integration of outboard effects.
This amp was originally delivered as a combo. The original owner ordered a suede covered head shell at some point, inn which the chassis now resides. The combo cab is included. No speaker is included in the cab.
This amp has it all - incredible, pedal-friendly cleans with headroom forever and widely varied lead tones that will blow your mind. 50 or 100 watt operation covers all the bases.
The effects loop can act like an attenuator, giving you access to the tone at lower volumes when needed:
The JWater effects loop is an all tube series interface to allow the use of effects between the preamp and the poweramp. It features Send level and Return Level to shape the response and gain. A true bypass switch provides maximum transparency when switched off.
The JWater acts as a buffer between the high signal level of the tube based preamp and the poweramp of the Welagen Overdrive Special, and the low signal environment of the solid state effect processors. In other words, the JWater shrinks down the high amplitude signal from the Overdrive Special preamp for the effects processor and then amplifies it back up to ‘tube world’ levels for the Overdrive Special power amp.
Here is what many people don’t know about this tube buffer; even when no outboard effects are used, the JWater can be used as a compressor to scale down a 100W head to lower volume levels while retaining the saturation and feel of a loud amp. This is very useful for small gigs and home use because it allows for scaling all the way down to whisper levels.
User reviews:
“I am amazed with the sonic quality of both the clean and dirty even at bedroom levels. Thanks for a great experience all the way around!”
“This amp is like nothing I’ve ever encountered before. The clean channel sounds almost like a piano, so articulate and rich in harmonics. Overall, a killer amp with an amazing tone. ”
“It sounds to me like a great old Twin Reverb that has been hit by harmonic lightning bolt, then doused in gasoline! Hats off to you Jelle.”

Shipping policy:
When you purchase this item you are hereby agreeing to this shipping policy. We remove tubes from amps that could be damaged in shipping. We remove the chassis from some amps so that the large transformers don't damage a chassis or cabinet. These cases result in multiple box shipments, and they require the buyer to do some assembly on delivery. We do this because we have experienced shipping issues in the past, and this is our prevention measure. Vintage amps are sold as-is because they can need service intermittently. Everything is tested here in our shop on the way into our inventory, and again before shipping. We will cover shipping damage, but we cannot be responsible for the failure of vintage components in 20-to-50-plus year old amps. Shipments will require signature on delivery, no exceptions. If there is damage, the buyer must retain all packing materials intact and picture them immediately and send them to sales@maharsvintageguitars.com. Less than 1% of our shipments are damaged in transit, and we are committed to making sure your item arrives safely, but we are taking these additional measures to make sure you are happy with your purchase.
