This contemporary Gretsch Duo Jet G6218T-57 is actually a rarity, made in the pre-Fender era in Japan, and mirroring one of the greatest Gretsch designs.

I personally dig the DeArmond pickups in this model.  They have a voice that is different from anything else in your stash, with an open, almost vocal quality.

I found this quip to be a great description, FROM TV Jones’s founder and Dynasonic devotee, Tom Jones:  "When people are looking for pure twang from a Gretsch, it’s best to find one with Dynasonics.  They have great sensitivity - which is why Jimmie Webster liked them so much - and clarity, especially in the bass notes. The large cylinder magnets help you get that surf twang and clear, crisp bass like Duane Eddy’s tone."  The pickups in this guitar aren't TV Jones made, but this is directly applicable:  “Our T-Armond pickups are very popular with alternative players doing elaborate chords and inversions, because you can really hear every note. It’s very clear but not glassy- sounding and it’s got some grit to it. You can get a nice growl out of the wound strings."

Add these pickups to a semi-hollow guitar with a mahogany back and arched, maple top and you're really looking good - and sounding even better.

This era of Gretsch guitars is known for quality and playability.  The guitars just don't have the quirks of vintage examples.  The fit and finish is right on as well.  This guitar is no exception.

The frets show very little wear, as is the case with the rest of the guitar. The neck is perfect and the truss rod fully functional. There are no structural issues.

The guitar came in with a dead neck pickup.  I had it rewound by Tom Brantley, a well-known pickup repair and rewinding master.  The rewound pickup matches the bridge perfectly - there is no audible sign of the change.

The guitar is a pleasure to play, which came as no surprise to me!

Paperwork and the original hardshell case is included.
