This P Bass just arrived. I will send it through the process to get all the specs, but I started the work and thought I'd get the listing going.

I went through the entire bass and it seems to be all original. The pickguard does have screw holes to mount the pickup cover, but there are no holes in the body beneath the pickguard in this area, so I thought that maybe the pickguard is not original. However, I did go out and look at others from the same period and it appears that this may be stock, though many have a tortoise guard. This is the only questionable part on the guitar, though the shield is present beneath the pickguard.

No solders or other hardware is changed, the truss rod is effective, and the bass sets up well. There is light fret wear, especially considering the age of the bass.

The neck date is from early 1987. This is early in the history of the AVRI series, which apparently began US production in 1985. The serial number comes up as a 1990 in searches, but it is well documented that Fender did not use numbers sequentially and did not document the year during this period. The neck date is the best way to place the date on this bass being that the solders are covering the potentiometer date codes.

There is some wear here and there and some natural checking. The candy apple red finish is ageing as only it does - it is really starting to look vintage!

The bass is a good weight at 8 pounds 10 ounces.
