Fender Telecasters from this era are on fire lately, including those from 1968 that beat the cutoff when Fender moved to poly finishes from the preferred nitrocellulose of the earlier guitars.  This is one of those early '68s.

As a result it has a vintage, 1960s feel that you just don't get from Teles made a few months later until the Custom Shop started spraying nitro again in the 90s.

The guitar has seen some changes that make it far more affordable than stock examples, which command prices in the neighborhood of $10,000.

Changes:

The neck pickup route was expanded to accommodate a mini humbucker.  It is not as ugly as many I've seen.  A 70s pickguard was added when the guitar was returned to a standard Tele pickup config.  The neck pickup is a Duncan and the bridge pickup is a cloth-covered-wire original.  The pots are from 1974 and 1975.  The tone cap is a Sprague replacement.  The frets have been replaced and subsequently leveled.  There is plenty of fret life left to enjoy for quite some time.  The bridge is a 70s replacement.

The case is a TKL molded one from the 2000s.

We were able to get the guitar set up very nicely.  The tone is fantastic as well.

Play the heck out of this one - it is your next road warrior.
