The Colorsound brand, produced by Sola Sound in London, helped define the sound of 1970s rock with pedals like the Tone Bender, Overdriver, and Octivider. Artists such as Jeff Beck, Jimmy Page, and David Gilmour famously used Colorsound gear. The Octivider, introduced in the early 1970s, stands as one of the earliest and most characterful analog octave pedals, prized by collectors for its fat, unmistakably British tone.
This original 1973 Colorsound Octivider is a rare and highly collectible vintage effects pedal. The Octivider was designed to deliver a fat, analog octave-down effect with warm, fuzzy overtones—an early example of the octave/fuzz hybrid concept that would later inspire countless modern designs.
The pedal’s distinctive sound comes from its hand-wired circuitry and germanium-based components, producing a thick, harmonically rich tone that retains excellent tracking and clarity. Whether used for bass-heavy riffs or synth-like octave textures, the Octivider remains a creative tool for vintage tone enthusiasts. This example is in excellent cosmetic and working condition for its age, showing only light wear consistent with careful use.
At Mahar’s Vintage Guitars, all vintage effects are tested, photographed accurately, and guaranteed to perform as described. We buy, sell, and accept trades on rare and boutique pedals.
