This Carson Hess Esquire with a featherweight pine body at just 5 pounds 14 ounces is a masterfully built, boutique take on the original single-pickup classic—focused, resonant, and astonishingly alive in the hands. Crafted with an uncompromising ear for tone and feel, it delivers the immediacy, snap, and dynamic response that made the Esquire a studio and stage staple, while elevating the platform with modern precision and attention to detail.

The pine body was reclaimed and I was told by the previous owner that it is 180 years old.  I assume that means that it was reclaimed from a building that was 180 years old. 

The pickup selector is a four-way switch.  You get the pickup straight to the output jack, volume control only, volume & tone, and a "cocked wah" tone - a-la Eldred controls.  The "Esquire Elrod setting" refers to a popular wiring modification for Fender Esquire/Telecaster guitars, named after Mike Eldred, that creates three distinct tones using the stock 3-way switch, most notably a "cocked wah" sound in the third position by routing the pickup through a small capacitor for a scooped, warm mid-range, while the other positions offer a direct bypass (twang) and standard volume/tone control. 

The neck is a Warmoth with a killer V and the perfect vintage feel, thanks to some very authentic relic work.  The pickup is a Cavalier "Huge Lion".  I've never heard one before, but I really like it!  This guitar barely made it to the site - it was nearly swallowed up by the guys in the shop.  

This example is in excellent condition, plays effortlessly, and showcases the kind of resonance players chase in great vintage instruments. It’s a serious working guitarist’s tool and a compelling piece for collectors who appreciate boutique craftsmanship and ultra-light builds.

A molded Fender hardshell case is included.

Shipping policy:

There are multiple shipping cost options for purchases made on our site.  Select Ground, 3 Day, 2 Day, or Next Day Air Saver.  For Reverb purchases, there is one cost option for Eastern states - customers from any state that is more than a 3 day UPS ground shipment from our shop will get their shipment via UPS 3 day air.  Otherwise, ground shipping will be used.  Shipments will require signature on delivery, no exceptions.  If there is damage, the buyer must retain all packing materials intact and picture them immediately and send them to sales@maharsvintageguitars.com.  Less than 1% of our shipments are damaged in transit, and we are committed to making sure your item arrives safely, but we are taking these additional measures to make sure you are happy with your purchase.
