This 1975 Ibanez Artist 2663 Iceman in Sunburst is an early, highly desirable example of the model that would soon evolve into the legendary Ibanez Iceman series.
Bold, angular, and unmistakably ahead of its time, the 2663 combined the best of ’70s Japanese craftsmanship with a forward-thinking body shape that set it apart from anything Fender or Gibson were offering during that era. The result is a guitar that feels both vintage and futuristic—an unmistakable presence onstage or in the studio.
The mahogany body and set neck deliver warmth and sustain, complemented by the original Super 70s humbucker in the neck position, known for their articulate punch and harmonically rich response. The bridge pickup was replaced yeas ago with a Jackson J-180C. Jackson J80 Humbuckers, known for being versatile, dynamic, lower-output (compared to Duncan and DiMarzio pickups from the era), and great for achieving a wide range of tones by picking hard or rolling the volume knob, providing classic 80s rock and metal tones. A couple of the original pots were replaced, presumably when the pickup was swapped in.
This early pre-Iceman example carries a cool historical mystique, offering a glimpse of the innovative direction Ibanez was taking during the mid-’70s. The neck feels fast and comfortable, and the bound rosewood fingerboard remains in excellent condition. The frets are full with decades of life left. The truss rod is effective and has room for future neck relief adjustments.
The guitar shows wear throughout - see the pics for details. It comes with its original hard case—another rarity for a model this age.
As with every instrument at Mahar’s Vintage Guitars, it has been fully inspected, photographed accurately, and set up to play its best.
