The Guild X-170 (1988, Blonde finish) is a beautifully crafted hollowbody archtop that captures the elegance and tonal richness Guild has been known for since the golden era of American guitar building. Designed as a professional-grade jazz and blues guitar, the X-170 features a maple body, arched spruce top, and a slim mahogany neck with a bound rosewood fingerboard, delivering warmth, resonance, and articulate clarity. Outfitted with dual humbucking pickups, this archtop offers everything from silky jazz cleans to punchy rockabilly bite.
This guitar is in amazingly clean condition and it has yellowed nicely, accentuating the beautiful maple wood grain.
The guitar is in near mint condition, showing little to no fret wear. The neck is straight and action is perfect, even with the new 11 gauge strings we installed. There are no changes, repairs, or issues whatsoever.
At Mahar’s Vintage Guitars, every guitar undergoes detailed inspection, setup, and documentation to ensure accuracy, authenticity, and playability.
If you’re searching for a rare Guild hollowbody that combines playability, stage presence, and vintage tone, this X-170 delivers in every way.
Excerpts from real user reviews:
“Like most Guilds, this is an incredibly well-made instrument that feels very solid in the hand. The only place I see even a hint of anything other than perfection is the pickup routes as seen from inside the guitar, and let’s be honest, who cares what the pickup routes look like from inside the guitar? ” — GAD’s Ramblings on a later Guild X-170 Gary A. Donahue
“The action is ridiculously low, and the neck shape fits my hand like a glove. The original Guild HB1 pickups just sing!” — NGD thread on the Acoustic Guitar Forum Acoustic Guitar Forum
“The X-170 is my favorite archtop model. It is very versatile and can do anything from jazz to rock to blues.” — Let’s Talk Guild forum user comment Let's Talk Guild
