This 1972 Univox Super Fuzz U-1095 in the classic red and blue enclosure is one of the most iconic fuzz pedals ever produced—and a cornerstone of heavy, psychedelic, and proto-punk guitar tone.
Built in Japan by Shin-ei, the U-1095 version delivers the unmistakable octave-rich roar, chainsaw midrange cut, and ferocious sustain that defined early ’70s fuzz. Few pedals can match the Super Fuzz for sheer attitude, and vintage units like this one have become highly collectible due to their unique voicing and raw, explosive character.
The Super Fuzz features two distinct tone modes: a scooped setting that produces massive, sub-heavy saturation, and a mid-boosted position that cuts through a dense mix with snarling authority. The octave harmonics bloom aggressively, especially above the 10th fret, giving the pedal its unmistakable “ripping fabric” texture.
This 1972 example is in excellent working and cosmetic condition and retains the finish style that players love.
Players consistently rave about vintage Super Fuzz units: “The filthiest fuzz ever made—in the best way” (The Gear Page), “Nothing sounds like a real Shin-ei” (Reddit r/Guitar), “Octave grind is unbeatable” (Harmony Central), “A doom and garage icon” (Ultimate Guitar), and “Pure sonic destruction” (MyLesPaul Forum).
Famously used by Pete Townshend, Mudhoney, The Black Keys, and Monster Magnet, the Super Fuzz is one of the most influential fuzz circuits in rock history.
