This 1955 Supro Comet 14-watt 1x10 combo is a fantastic example of mid-1950s American tube amplifier design, delivering raw vintage tone, simple controls, and unmistakable character. Built during the golden era of Valco manufacturing, Supro amps like the Comet have become highly sought after for their rich harmonic breakup and studio-friendly volume levels. These amps capture the gritty, expressive sound heard on countless blues and early rock recordings.
Tonally, the Comet produces warm cleans with a woody midrange and rounded low end, but where it truly shines is when the volume is pushed. The amp transitions into thick, harmonically rich overdrive with a distinctive gritty edge that makes single notes bloom and chords snarl with attitude. The 10-inch speaker keeps the response tight and focused while still delivering plenty of vintage punch. It’s extremely responsive to pick attack and guitar volume changes, making it a joy for expressive blues, roots rock, and slide playing.
The speaker was reconed before the amp got here - which is good because these speakers are always really tired when they're original.
This example presents as a wonderful vintage piece with honest cosmetic wear consistent with age and decades of musical use. It remains an inspiring amplifier that captures the authentic sound of 1950s American tube circuits—perfect for recording or intimate live settings where character and touch sensitivity matter most.
The amp came in with recently replaced filter caps. I went one step further and replaced the old, wax tone and electrolytic bypass caps - they really needed it. It functions well and sounds solid! You won't find a better one! Well, you might find a slightly cleaner one, but other sellers likely won't do the work we do so you might just buy yourself a project.
The tubes are tested, the tube sockets and pots cleaned as well. The i's have been dotted, and the t's have been crossed!
As with all amplifiers at Mahar’s Vintage Guitars, it has been fully inspected, photographed accurately, and professionally evaluated to ensure dependable performance.
We buy, sell, and take trades.

Shipping policy:
When you purchase this item you are hereby agreeing to this shipping policy. We remove tubes from amps that could be damaged in shipping. These cases require the buyer to re-install them on delivery - it is very easy with this amp, and we label them so you know exactly where to put them. We do this because we have experienced shipping issues in the past, and this is our prevention measure. Vintage amps are sold as-is because they can need service intermittently. Everything is tested here in our shop on the way into our inventory, and again before shipping. We will cover shipping damage, but we cannot be responsible for the failure of vintage components in 20-to-50-plus year old amps. Shipments will require signature on delivery, no exceptions. If there is damage, the buyer must retain all packing materials intact and picture them immediately and send them to sales@maharsvintageguitars.com. Less than 1% of our shipments are damaged in transit, and we are committed to making sure your item arrives safely, but we are taking these additional measures to make sure you are happy with your purchase.
