SOLD - Ovation Magnum I Bass 1978$0.00
No sales tax for customers outside California.
One of those instruments that makes you do a double take. Especially with those neon strings!
Unique looks aren't all you get with this bass. For one, the neck pickup is actually made up of four individual coils, ear with their own mini volume pot, built into the pickup. I can imagine that this would really open some doors for different styles of music or different playing techniques. The bridge pickup is advertised as a humbucker with U shaped coils that gives more "high overtones and less midrange".
Check the link here to the Ovation manual for the Magnum bass series.
The metal work between the pickups acts as a thumbrest, allowing you to hang on wherever you want. The mute mechanism is pretty cool and mixes in nicely with the other space age parts. There must have been some foamy something on the mute at some point, because it doesn't quite reach the strings - you'll need to devise some type of muting material to set on the part that raises towards the strings if you want to utilize it.
The neck is carbon-graphite reinforced with one strip on the back and two under the fretboard. This is working - the neck is really straight and sets up very well.
The bass is comfortable to play despite the odd looks, and it isn't just something that will give you a different look - it is a very playable bass with a wide array of tones.
There are no repairs of issues. All solders are original. The stock goop is still there under the pickguard - why, can't tell ya.
The original case is included but the handle is missing. It does appear that another one could be added pretty easily.
