National produced electric lap steels through the 1930s, 1940s, and into the 1950s, and the New Yorker was one of their signature models during that run. This is an early example, making it of interest to National collectors tracking the development of the line. The 4-knob control configuration — with original pots, original wiring, original solder joints, and an original screw-in Amphenol RF output connector — is intact and unmodified. The open-gear tuners are original. The chrome pickup cover is in very good condition; the pickup is fully functional.
The steel has a 2-1/4" nut width and 2" string spacing at the bridge. Overall condition is excellent. The head of one fretboard screw was broken off when we received the steel — see the photos. The treble knob has a cracked bottom but remains functional. The original Geib case is included and grades fair. No other repairs or modifications are noted on the body, neck, fretboard, or electronics. Finish on both the body and neck is original.
