The amp operates flawlessly and delivers killer clean and overdrive tones.  Each channel offers a three-way switch, allowing you to voice each as Clean, Drive or High gain.

The Gain control on the Mesa Boogie Fillmore 50 Head is a powerful tone-shaping tool that adjusts the amount of preamp gain, determining how clean or overdriven your sound is before it reaches the power amp. At lower gain settings, the amp delivers clean or slightly gritty tones with more headroom and touch sensitivity—perfect for jazz, blues, funk, or pedal-based setups. As you increase the gain, the amp produces more saturation and harmonic content, moving into rich, dynamic overdrive ideal for rock, fusion, and lead tones.

The Gain knob works in tandem with the Fillmore’s three selectable channel modes: Clean, Drive, and HI. In Clean mode, turning up the gain results in a pushed, just-breaking-up tone. In Drive mode, it controls the amount of smooth overdrive and compression. HI mode delivers the most saturation, offering thick distortion and sustain without needing pedals. The Gain control also interacts with the Master Volume; for high-gain tones at lower volumes, crank the Gain and reduce the Master, or reverse that approach for cleaner headroom.

For the Fillmore’s signature “edge of breakup” sound, try setting the Gain around 11 to 1 o’clock in Drive mode, with the Master high enough to let the amp’s power section open up. This setup brings out the touch-sensitive response and organic tone that makes the Fillmore 50 a favorite among players looking for boutique-style tube performance.

When you purchase this item you are hereby agreeing to this shipping policy. We remove tubes from amps that could be damaged in shipping.  We do this because we have experienced shipping issues in the past, and this is our prevention measure.  Vintage amps are sold as-is because they can need service intermittently.  Everything is tested here in our shop on the way into our inventory, and again before shipping.  We will cover shipping damage, but we cannot be responsible for the failure of vintage components in 20-to-50-plus year old amps. Shipments will require signature on delivery, no exceptions.  If there is damage, the buyer must retain all packing materials intact and picture them immediately and send them to sales@maharsvintageguitars.com.  Less than 1% of our shipments are damaged in transit, and we are committed to making sure your item arrives safely, but we are taking these additional measures to make sure you are happy with your purchase.
