This is a really good, big sounding 70s D-28 with a good deal of mojo.  The back of the neck has lots of wear through the finish, just where you want it.

The frets have been replaced and it appears that the bridge was reglued at some point as well.  The nut was replaced, probably when the guitar was refretted.  The frets are full with little to no wear since the refret.  The saddle was also replaced with a compensated bone saddle.  Someone notched the saddle where the strings hit it, perhaps to lower the action slightly.  Some glue appears to have run off from the nut slot and affected the finish in small areas where the headstock hits the neck.

Speaking of the action: the guitar plays extremely well.  There is some saddle height left.  It does not currently need a neck reset, but one day down the road it will.

There are no cracks anywhere on the guitar.  There is a strap button added to the neck heel.

This 1976 Martin D-28 is a fine example of one of the most iconic acoustic guitars ever made, built during the heart of the Nazareth, PA factory’s 1970s production era. Featuring a solid Sitka spruce top paired with East Indian rosewood back and sides, this dreadnought delivers the powerful bass, balanced mids, and shimmering highs that have defined the D-28’s legendary voice for decades.

The mahogany neck with ebony fingerboard offers a smooth, comfortable playing feel, while the traditional scalloped bracing provides exceptional resonance and projection—perfect for bluegrass, folk, and singer-songwriter styles.

This instrument remains in excellent vintage condition and includes the original Martin hang tag and the rare blue “Steal Me” case—a piece of period-correct history highly sought after by Martin enthusiasts. Professionally inspected and set up, it’s ready for both the stage and the collection.
