I've always been a fan of Larrivee, having been a dealer of their guitars for years back in my music store owning days. Most of my employees ended up with one, drawn by the quality and price point. There simply never was a bad one that came through the door, and we moved a lot of them! And not only were the guitars a pleasure, the people at Larrivee were the among the best in the business.
This tradition of quality continues today, some 20 years after my retail experience with the company. This guitar is the epitome of everything I said above. There is just so much for the money here, and though that statement makes it sound like it is just a good, affordable guitar, it really is more than that. The fit and finish is perfect. Fret work is beautiful, obviously the inlay work is a stand out effort, and the classis pickguard is the icing on the cake.
The guitar plays beautifully with low action and a truss rod that leaves room for future adjustment. Being only a handful of months old, there is no wear to the body, neck or frets to speak of. There was a pickup installed, the only modification being a widening of the endpin. The previous owner removed the pickup, so the endpin jack is not wired to anything - it is there to act as a strap button and to accept the wiring of your pickup system, should you decide to install one.
Woods are solid throughout - Sitka spruce top and Indian Rosewood back and sides and the guitar comes with its really nice, original case..
