Beastly Bassman tweed and early Marshall tones are what you get from this big 'ol lug.
One of two 1990s Kendrick amps to hit the shop this week. This and the Model 2000 head have many similarities, mainly the crunchy tweed saturation. I compared the 2000 head to our '59 Bassman, and this amp can similarly stand up to that iconic Fender combo.
First off - this amp is impressive as heck in person. The cabinet design is so cool. The tweed is beautiful, and the contours of the cabinet are pretty sexy.
The cabinet is built of Brazilian Canary wood. Kendrick swore by the wood's tonal properties. I'd say that whatever those are, they're likely helping this monster sound the way it does. The wood is clearly very strong as well. This thing is built to last many lifetimes.
At this time, I'm not really sure what the footswitch option does. I'll have to report back on that. There is an effects loop, and the amp can be switched form fixed bias to cathode biased.
The amp is currently leaded with Warehouse Speakers Veteran 30s, a Celestion Vintage 30 re-make: "The 12” Veteran 30 speaker from WGS is tonally superior to Celestion's Vintage 30 speaker. The tonal improvement is in the upper-mids. The Veteran 30 speaker has smoothed out the upper-mid "spike" notorious in the Vintage 30 speaker. "
This amp will be shipped in two boxes and will require the buyer to re-install the chassis in the cabinet. Other sellers might not do so, but I know that the transformers on the chassis are too heavy, and the way things are handled by the shippers out there it is too risky to ship the unit complete. Everyday handling is fine, but things just get bonked around out there too much in shipping.
Shipping policy:
Shipments will require signature on delivery, no exceptions. If there is damage, the buyer must retain all packing materials intact and picture them immediately and send them to sales@maharsvintageguitars.com. Less than 1% of our shipments are damaged in transit, and we are committed to making sure your item arrives safely, but we are taking these additional measures to make sure you are happy with your purchase.
Some Kendrick back story:
Kendrick Amplifiers is a well-known brand in the world of guitar amplifiers. It was founded by Gerald Weber in 1989 and is based in Kempner, Texas, USA. Kendrick amplifiers are highly regarded for their exceptional tone and craftsmanship, and they have gained a dedicated following among guitarists.
Gerald Weber, the founder of Kendrick Amplifiers, has a background in electronics and a passion for vintage tube amplifiers. He started working on amplifiers in the early 1970s and became known for his expertise in tube amp repair and modification. Weber's deep knowledge of vintage amps and his desire to recreate their classic tone led him to establish his own amplifier company.
Kendrick Amplifiers began its journey by producing hand-wired tube amplifiers inspired by vintage designs. Weber's approach involved meticulously recreating the circuits and components used in classic amps from the 1950s and 1960s. His dedication to capturing the authentic vintage sound quickly gained attention from musicians, especially those seeking vintage-style tones.
One of the standout products from Kendrick Amplifiers is the "Kendrick Blackframe" amplifier, which was introduced in the early 1990s. The Blackframe series aimed to replicate the iconic sound of early Fender amplifiers, and it became highly sought after by guitarists looking for that vintage Fender tone.
Over the years, Kendrick Amplifiers expanded its product line to include a variety of models, ranging from low-wattage practice amps to powerful stage amplifiers. The company also offers a range of speaker cabinets and other accessories designed to complement their amplifiers.
