The Gibson SG Standard from 2013 seems to be more like a Custom Shop 1091 Reissue, with the pickups on rings on the body rather than floating in a large pickguard, the black cover between the neck pickup and the end of the fretboard, and the low profile neck heel.
It is said that perhaps the discontinuation of the 61 Reissue in 2012 left bodies with these specs for a lesser-priced, production model in 2013. Whatever happened, the result is a killer SG for the price.
This particular SG was made even better by its prior owner. He sought out the cleanest example of this year's SG and outfitted it with upgraded pots and paper-in-oil caps, a locking ABR-1 style bridge and a locking stopbar tailpiece. All the original partss are in the original case.
Now that the work is done, it is impossible to say which upgrade is the most impactful, but it is safe to say that it all comes together perfectly and provides a killer playing SG with amazing tone and sustain.
The guitar is also super light at just 6 pounds, 6.6 ounces.
The frets are in excellent condition and the neck is perfect with room for future adjustment in the truss rod.
