This is one of my favorite Gibson guitars. It's a 5 pound, 1 ounce monster! I'm not alone - Angus Young, Tony Iommi, Pete Townshend, and Eric Clapton all are known to have relied on the guitars during important parts of their careers.
The all-mahogany body and set neck give this guitar a lively, resonant voice with midrange punch and natural sustain. The P-90 pickups deliver everything from warm, articulate cleans to snarling, aggressive overdrive with exceptional touch sensitivity.
The guitar is in excellent cosmetic condition, with a few no-so-significant changes. There are no cracks or repairs. The tuners were changed at one point, adding a few mounting screw holes and widened tuner post holes. Thankfully, someone widened the holes cleanly - this can often be a bit of a mess. The original plate tuners on these guitars were pretty lame. There's an aged set of repro Kluson machines on it now.
The original tremolo is in the case. A previous owner put a repro unit on the guitar because it allows for better break angle over the bridge. There were no modifications to the guitar with this change.
The original frets have been leveled and have more life left to work with. The truss rod has plenty of room for future neck relief adjustments. The setup is killer - the action is low and the guitar plays great.
The case is original. One latch is broken.
As with all instruments at Mahar’s Vintage Guitars, it has been fully inspected, photographed accurately, and professionally evaluated to ensure it plays its absolute best.
