Designed by Bill Lawrence — one of the most respected pickup engineers of the era — the L6-S Deluxe pickups were purpose-built to deliver a wide tonal range across the guitar's distinctive 6-position rotary switch circuit. What we have here is a genuine New Old Stock example from the 1970s: unplayed, unused, and carrying all the original character of the period. These pickups have never seen service, which is increasingly difficult to find given how many L6-S guitars have been parted out or modified over the decades.
Measuring in at 5.78k DC resistance, this neck pickup sits in a well-balanced output range — not hot-rodded, not anemic. That reading is consistent with the original Deluxe spec, which was voiced for clarity and articulation across a wide frequency range. The L6-S Deluxe circuit extracted six distinct sounds from just two pickups, and that flexibility demanded a pickup that could stay coherent and musical from clean jazz tones to driven rock. The ground lead is a bare wire, leaving the back of the pickup. It will need to be wired in with an added wire.
