The Princeton Reverb is the current king of amps here at Mahar's Vintage Guitars. I've been working hard to find good examples like this, get them across the bench, and get 'em listed for you. Enjoy!
The Princeton Reverb is a 12-watt single-channel tube combo with built-in spring reverb and tremolo, introduced in 1964 with the AA1164 circuit and produced through 1967 in the blackface configuration. 1967 is the final year of blackface Princeton Reverb production. The following year CBS ownership brought the silverface cosmetics, and while the AA1164 circuit remained largely intact through the early transition, the black panel with white-on-black control labeling and wheat sparkle grille cloth are the defining visual identity of the most collectible era of this amplifier. This example presents in near mint condition throughout — black tolex, wheat sparkle grille, original pine cabinet and baffle, original chassis — all original cosmetics intact after nearly 60 years.
The Princeton delivers a true American Fender tone with punchy, responsive lows and chimey highs. When cranked you get responsive, harmonically complex breakup that players have been chasing for decades — and at 12 watts through a tube rectifier, it reaches that territory at volumes genuinely usable when recording or playing a small venue. The phase inverter is a single-ended cathodyne split-load design rather than the long-tailed pair used in the Deluxe Reverb — which is why a cranked Princeton sounds and behaves so differently from a cranked Deluxe. The circuit is hand-wired point-to-point on eyelet boards, the construction method that defines the blackface era.
The 10" Jensen Fender Special Design speaker is original. The stamped code confirms Jensen production from week 11 of 1966, correct and contemporary with this amp's assembly. The original cone intact. The vintage Jensen C10 in the Princeton Reverb provides a classic scooped Fender blackface tone with a big bottom end.
Original Schumacher power transformer dated week 40 of 1967, original Schumacher output transformer dated week 25 of 1966, original Schumacher reverb transformer dated week 18 of 1967. Bypass caps have been updated along with the bias cap. A grounded power cable is installed. Original pots. JJ 6V6 power tubes, JJ GZ34 rectifier, JJ and mixed-brand, vintage preamp tubes. Original reverb tank. Non-original footswitch included. Non-original cover in excellent condition. At 30 lbs 2.5 oz this is a light, portable, and highly gig-able amplifier.

Shipping Policy
By completing your purchase you are agreeing to this shipping policy. Shipments require signature on delivery, no exceptions. Less than 1% of our shipments are damaged in transit, and we are committed to making sure your item arrives safely. If there is damage, retain all packing materials intact, photograph them immediately, and send the photos to sales@maharsvintageguitars.com.
Amplifiers: We take additional precautions to prevent common shipping damage. Depending on the amp, this may include removing tubes, pulling the chassis from the cabinet if heavy transformers present a drop risk, or removing heavy speakers that could crack baffles in transit. Reassembly is required on delivery — we label everything clearly. These measures add to shipping costs but reflect hard-won experience. All amps are tested in our shop upon intake and again before shipping. We cover shipping damage but cannot be responsible for the failure of vintage components in instruments that are 20 to 50-plus years old.
