This Amplified Nation Steel String Sultan is a beast with looks and tone that kill!

The amp was special ordered to run on 6550 power tubes.  The original owner was in search of glassy Stevie Ray Vaughan tones, which you can absolutely get from this config, plus a whole lot more.

There is some serious fidelity here.  It'll put out loud, full, pristine clean tones that are full and rich.  You can push it too, and lighting it up with our P-90-loaded, '62 Epiphone Coronet got some nasty dirt.  The amp runs pure and quiet.  The reverb is lush with some great two-knob flexibility.

The original EVM12-L speakers in the cab are a load, but they just work with this amp so perfectly.  And speaking of the speakers...  I was working on a 1962 Fender Super that just showed up.  The speaker cones were toast on arrival, so I sent them off for a recone.  In the meantime, I did a cap job, etc and wanted to test the amp, so I plugged it into this 2x12.  Holyflippincow.  The efficiency of the EVs met the brown-tolex Fender tone in a really great place.  The shop was full of tone geeks at the time.  We all freaked.

You may not know, but Amplified Nation got a cease-and-desist notice from Vox after using their famous patterned grille cloth for a time.  This is one of the last amps out of AN with that cloth.

The amp is really, really clean and beautiful.  We intend to keep it that way by packing the daylights out of it if it ships out of here.  Shipping will not be cheap.

And lastly, I'm not wild about splitting the head off from the cab - I'm sure I will be asked to, but I'm not inclined to do so.

From Amplified Nation:

The Steel String Sultan is a lower wattage and physically smaller version of our Steel String Singer. The preamp is still based off of SSS #005, but the power amp has 6L6 tubes which lends it's tones closer to SSS #002.  (This version was special ordered to run on 6550s). We took out the FET and the footswitch to pack this powerhouse into a 19″ chassis. The Sultan is a very strong, punchy amp that is crisp and clean.  The 6L6 power section gives a bit of a more ‘guitar amp’ feel, while still capturing many of the hi-fi qualities of the big SSS.

The power section of the Steel String Sultan has a cathode follower driver that greatly increases output and gives the signature SSS tone. When compared to the Wonderland series, the Sultan is crisper, stiffer, cleaner, and less forgiving with a very percussive high output. The SSSultan works very well for pedals, blues, rock, and fusion sounds.

The amp is built into a bare aluminum chassis with faceplates, so more colors are available. All machining and drilling is done by CNC, but all wiring is done by hand. High end components include Orange Drop and NTE capacitors, F&T Electrolytics, new production Dale, Vishay, and Koa resistors.

King Zapata of the Gary Clark Jr band played one of our Steel String Sultans on his 2016 world tour. Many people have considered this amp to be one of the best they have ever played.

Firstly, this amp is all about the cathode follower. This design increases your clean headroom and ensures your power section is seeing a big, but clear signal out of your preamp section. Harmonics are alive. Cleans are big and lush, with no unwanted sag.

Secondly, the 6-position High and Low filter controls. Even before you go tweaking your EQ, start here. Each provides six varying roll-off frequencies for superb control of your top and bottom end. These are enormously useful, especially given the massive EQ range of the amp. We tend to run both filters back a couple notches and fine-tune to suit the guitar.

And then you still have a full 3-band EQ section and presence control. The tonal contouring options on this amp are unparalleled. We love where the midrange EQ sits. Roll it past noon to give the amp a gloriously round and smooth midrange, or cut it back for a “glassier” tone without triggering any ice-picky highs.

Finally, the three toggle switches piggy back on the tonestack for a degree of variety perhaps unsurpassed by any other clean amp. The Rock/Jazz switch in the up position actually pushes the amp into a light, but creamy, overdrive. Work the volume knob on your guitar to bring it all the way back to clean, or lay into it for some crunch and extra sustain on single notes. The Deep and Bright switches speak for themselves, and allow you to make quick adjustments for different guitars or desired EQ emphases.

The tube-driven reverb is just as lush as the rest of the circuitry. With independent send and return controls, you decide whether you are looking for a big pre-delay that pushes your notes aside or a more nuanced flavor that kicks in behind the note attack. From mild to outright spacey, you can have it all.

Of particular note, this amp brings a Strat to life with all the big & snappy lows, juicy mids and syrupy highs you could ever want. And yet it puts an incredible chirp on your humbuckers as well. And you can still push this beast into a fantastic rhythm breakup, especially with those ‘buckers. You’ll get an incredibly tight and punchy grind by pushing the power tubes via the Master Volume while backing off the preamp section
