This 1963 Fender Jaguar in custom-color Blonde over ash is an extraordinary example from Fender’s golden era—combining early-‘60s craftsmanship, premium tonewoods, and rare aesthetics in one breathtaking instrument.

While most Jaguars were finished in sunburst over alder, this one sports an ash body with a translucent Blonde finish, revealing subtle grain beneath the lacquer—an option reserved for custom-order models of the time.

Ash bodied Fender guitars from the 60s can be heavier than the same guitars in alder, but this one weighs just 8 pounds, 0.5 ounces.

The guitar is all original with the exception of a pro refret and the missing under-bridge mute.  The original trem arm and bridge cover are included as well.  The wear on the piece is the coolest - this one has THE look!  The dark, Brazilian fretboard stands in beautiful contrast to the naturally aged, blonde finish.  The '63 neck shape is one of the best.

This is also a great playing guitar that set up nicely for us.  There is room in the truss rod for future neck relief adjustments.  The original case has seen some action, but it is there and it securely protects the guitar.

Under the hood, the original single-coil pickups deliver the bright, articulate, and percussive tone that defines the Jaguar, with the model’s signature dual-circuit wiring offering both lead and rhythm voices. The 24” short scale makes it exceptionally playable, ideal for surf, indie, and rock tones. The bound rosewood fingerboard with clay dots, spaghetti logo, and early L-series serial confirm its pre-CBS pedigree.

At Mahar’s Vintage Guitars, all instruments are inspected and photographed accurately. We buy, sell, and accept trades on vintage Fender guitars and amplifiers.
