This early-’70s Orange OR-80 with the rare “No Text” control panel is a legendary British head from the golden era of heavy rock amplification. Built between 1971 and 1973, these first-run OR series amps are prized for their raw authority, massive low end, and unmistakable midrange roar—and the minimalist, text-free front panel marks this as one of the most collectible versions.
This example is a strong vintage player with honest wear consistent with age and a sound that is huge, immediate, and inspiring. It’s the kind of amplifier that makes you play differently—louder, bolder, with a big 'ol grin! It can also pretty much punch you right in the face.
The transformers are original. Some beneficial service has been performed - a grounded power cable added, filter caps were updated, and some other caps in the circuit as well. There is one silver cap plugging a small hole in the chassis near the power switch - the only remnant of a mod that has been removed. The speakers appear to be 2008 Celestion Vintage 30s.
We tested the tubes, cleaned the tube sockets and the pots, and gladly ran the amp for quite a while to make sure it runs right. There is just a little noise floor that is typical for these amps.
The OR-80 delivers thick, harmonically rich cleans that transition into crushing, organic overdrive as you push the front end. It’s an amp that lives and breathes dynamics: pick lighter for chewy, vintage crunch, dig in and it explodes with classic British grind. The simple control layout is part of the magic, letting the core circuit and power section do the talking. Paired with the right cabinet, this head produces a wall of tone that defined early doom, hard rock, and heavy blues records.
As with all amplifiers at Mahar’s Vintage Guitars, it has been fully inspected, photographed accurately, and evaluated to ensure reliable performance.
We buy, sell, and take trades.

Shipping policy:
When you purchase this item you are hereby agreeing to this shipping policy. We remove tubes from amps that could be damaged in shipping. These cases require the buyer to re-install them on delivery - it is very easy with this amp, and we label them so you know exactly where to put them. We remove the chassis of amps with heavy transformers and ship them separately as their weight can distort the chassis if the box is dropped in shipping. These cases require customers to reassemble amps. It also costs us more. The shipping cost is higher as a result. We do this because we have experienced shipping issues in the past, and this is our prevention measure. Vintage amps are sold as-is because they can need service intermittently. Everything is tested here in our shop on the way into our inventory, and again before shipping. We will cover shipping damage, but we cannot be responsible for the failure of vintage components in 20-to-50-plus year old amps. Shipments will require signature on delivery, no exceptions. If there is damage, the buyer must retain all packing materials intact and picture them immediately and send them to sales@maharsvintageguitars.com. Less than 1% of our shipments are damaged in transit, and we are committed to making sure your item arrives safely, but we are taking these additional measures to make sure you are happy with your purchase.
