By 1958 the Bassman had evolved into what many consider its highest form. This circuit became so influential that it directly inspired Marshall's JTM45, effectively laying the groundwork for British rock amplification. Jim Marshall and Ken Bran copied the 5F6-A circuit in its entirety to create the JTM45, and from there Marshall modified it further to produce the Plexi. Every Marshall amplifier ever made traces its lineage directly to this circuit. The 5F6-A's immortal status was cemented in 1962 when Marshall essentially copied it.
The magic of the Bassman circuit was a combination of alterations and refinements including a cathode follower tone stack with midrange control, a presence control, a GZ34 tube rectifier, and a long-tail-pair phase inverter that provided improved clean headroom. The elements come together to create an amp that offers tones ranging from warm jazz to gritty blues to classic rock. Crank it and it simply rips.
The four Jensen P10R Alnico 10" speakers appear to be original to the amp. Their manufacturer codes confirming Jensen production, with three speakers dating to 1959 (weeks 17, 21, and 34) and one earlier speaker from week 65 of 1957, consistent with Fender assembling from parts inventory. All four have been professionally reconed.
The output transformer and choke are original Triad units. The power transformer is the correct Triad part number for a 1959 Bassman, sourced from a 1957 Fender. I purchased the amp in Nashville earlier this year, knowing that a power transformer was lurking around in my shop, allowing me to "get it right". There is one sign of this change - an extension or one of the PT's lead wires that you can see in our pics.
Other notes show that this amp has all the good stuff! Original pots throughout. Tung-Sol 6L6 power tubes, GE 5AR4 rectifier, Tung-Sol and RCA 12AX7 preamp tubes. Filter caps/bias caps/bypass caps replaced. Power cord upgraded to grounded three-prong. Original tweed covering and original grille cloth with one small hole noted, original pine cabinet and baffle, all in excellent condition. Original handle. Original Victoria Luggage Company cover in good condition included.

Shipping Policy
By completing your purchase you are agreeing to this shipping policy. Shipments require signature on delivery, no exceptions. Less than 1% of our shipments are damaged in transit, and we are committed to making sure your item arrives safely. If there is damage, retain all packing materials intact, photograph them immediately, and send the photos to sales@maharsvintageguitars.com.
Amplifiers: We take additional precautions to prevent common shipping damage. Depending on the amp, this may include removing tubes, pulling the chassis from the cabinet if heavy transformers present a drop risk, or removing heavy speakers that could crack baffles in transit. Reassembly is required on delivery — we label everything clearly. These measures add to shipping costs but reflect hard-won experience. All amps are tested in our shop upon intake and again before shipping. We cover shipping damage but cannot be responsible for the failure of vintage components in instruments that are 20 to 50-plus years old.
