The Eko Barracuda 290 is a fully hollow maple-body thinline with a 24.75" scale, ebony fretboard, and a zero fret — a construction combination that favors clear, glassy articulation across the neck with warm, resonant low-mids from the all-maple build. The floating tremolo and dual white-covered single-coil pickups run through a 4-position rotary switch, giving a wider tonal palette than a simple 3-way toggle. This example presents in excellent condition throughout: original amber sunburst finish, original hardware, original wiring and solder joints, original pickguard, and a non-original Ibanez case in very good condition with no odor.
Eko of Recanati, Italy produced the Barracuda line through the 1960s as part of their push into the international market alongside Italian contemporaries Wandré and Crucianelli. The 290 designation sits in the upper tier of the Barracuda range, distinguished by its full complement of hardware, ornate closed-gear tuners with white pearloid buttons, bakelite nut, ebony fretboard, and bound body. These instruments were sold in Europe and exported to the US through budget-tier importers. The all-maple construction, ebony board, and zero fret are features you'd expect on instruments costing significantly more at the time.
We have no repairs, cracks, or structural issues to report on this guitar. The pearloid dot inlays at the 12th fret are noted as sunk into the fretboard but secure. Frets are in very good condition with no repairs. Action is 2/32" on both the first and sixth strings at the 12th fret, measured with 10-46 gauge strings. The case included is a non-original Ibanez case in very good condition. We had to shim the neck to get a good setup on the guitar, as is typical for Italian made guitars from the era - something that you'll see on every Vox from the era for instance.
