This 1965 Gibson ES-120T is one of the cleanest examples of this beloved student-model hollowbody you’re likely to find, made even more desirable by its wide-nut neck, a feature highly favored by players who prefer a roomier feel compared to later narrow-nut ’60s Gibsons.

The guitar plays perfectly, with a chunky, but not too fat neck.  It has a very cool tone to it, acoustically, that might just make it your couch guitar.  It also happens to sound really good when it is plugged in as well.  This 120T is all original, the frets show light wear, and the finish is bright and sharp looking.  The case might be original.  It is definitely period correct.  It needs a little restoration work - there's a split at the endpin, and the handle cleanly broke.

Lightweight, resonant, and effortlessly charming, the ES-120T has become a cult favorite for its unique electronics and unmistakable mid-’60s Gibson character.

The fully hollow thinline body paired with the integrated “melody maker-style” pickup and pickguard assembly creates a warm, open, and articulate tone with a sweet top end and a mellow, woody midrange. Whether played clean for jazz, pushed for blues, or used for recording indie and lo-fi textures, the ES-120T sits beautifully in a mix. This 1965 example is in excellent condition, showing minimal wear and exceptional structural integrity—rare for a model that often shows plenty of use.

Players praise the ES-120T for its vibe and musicality: “One of Gibson’s most underrated hollowbodies” (The Gear Page), “Big, warm cleans that sound great recorded” (Reddit r/Guitar), “Wide-nut ’65 necks feel perfect” (Harmony Central), “Lightweight and super resonant” (Vintage Guitar Forum), and “A sleeper vintage gem” (MyLesPaul Forum).

While not associated with a single marquee artist, the ES-120T’s tone lives in countless soul, blues, and early rock recordings, thanks to its airy response and microphone-friendly clarity.
