The Les Paul Junior — one pickup, one volume, one tone, a wraparound bridge, and a slab mahogany body. Everything that makes a guitar sound good, nothing that doesn't. This 2024 Gibson Custom Shop 1957 Single Cut reissue in TV Yellow is the real deal: hide glue construction, a Custom dog-ear P-90, period-correct appointments throughout, VOS nitrocellulose finish, and it comes complete with its original case and Certificate of Authenticity. This is what the guitar looked like and sounded like at the peak of the original model's production. Gibson's Custom Shop got it right.

Condition

The guitar is very near mint in condition. The frets show the slightest wear.  There are light signs of handling, but the guitar looks nearly new.  There are no changes, repairs, or issues and it plays perfectly.  There is room in the truss rod for future neck relief adjustments.

We all love Juniors here.  This one has been determined to be a winner.  The weight is 8 pounds, .5 ounces.

The case really nice, and all the paperwork is included.

A Bit of History

Gibson introduced the Les Paul Junior in 1954 as an affordable student model — a stripped-down single-pickup version of the standard Les Paul, priced at $99.50 and aimed squarely at beginners. What they didn't anticipate was that the Junior's radical simplicity would turn out to be a tonal advantage. The single dog-ear P-90 positioned close to the bridge, combined with the resonant one-piece mahogany slab body and wraparound bridge, produced a tone that was raw, punchy, and ferociously direct — the exact opposite of refined. The TV Yellow finish arrived in 1955 alongside the "Les Paul TV Model" variant, named not — as the popular myth goes — to avoid glare under TV studio lights, but to tie the guitar to the popular television show of Les Paul and Mary Ford. The limed mahogany finish aged into that distinctive mustard yellow that became one of the most recognizable colors in electric guitar history. Johnny Thunders made the Junior the weapon of choice for New York punk. Keith Richards has used a TV Yellow Junior on stage regularly for decades. Mick Jones played one on the first two Clash albums. Billie Joe Armstrong's whole identity is tied to the model. Gary Moore used a 1955 Junior throughout his time with Thin Lizzy and his early solo work. John Lennon, Jimi Hendrix, and Luther Grosvenor all recorded with Juniors. What was designed as Gibson's cheapest electric turned out to be one of its most enduring — and the '57 single-cut in TV Yellow is the most mythologized version of all.

Excerpts from real online user forums and reviews

  • "This guitar is extremely well made, no QC issues whatsoever. It's almost acoustic-like unplugged — very resonant. I've played and owned a lot of guitars over the years and they don't even compare. A Custom Gibson is a huge difference over a production model. This may be the best guitar I've ever owned." — zZounds Verified Customer Review
  • "The Custom Shop reissue of the '57 Les Paul Junior is one of our all-time favorite guitars. A slab mahogany body, chunky neck shape, and a ripping P-90 pickup — everyone needs to own a Les Paul Junior." — The Music Zoo
  • "In guitar lingo, being 'ruined' is when you play something so good there's no going back to what you once had. No Gibson guitar has evoked this expression more than the Les Paul Junior." — Gibson Custom Shop
  • "The comfortable neck carve feels chunky and wide — when you wrap your hand around it for the first time, you'll lose yourself in the feeling that enticed thousands of players. Dial back the volume and you'll reveal a surprisingly sweet and articulate tone. Pair it with high gain and it unleashes growls, barks, and wails like you've never heard before." — Sweetwater
  • "Everybody needs a Junior to go with their Esquire. Two different but both very good in-your-face tones. I wager to say the majority of electric guitar players would be fine with one or the other as their only guitar." — Gretsch-Talk Forum
